Plain Language Summary:

The PLASMIC score is a tool used to help doctors quickly identify immune thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP), a rare but serious blood disorder. This study found that the score works well overall, but it is less accurate in older adults.

Researchers found that one factor in the score provided little useful information, while a blood test called LDH was a strong predictor of iTTP. A modified version of the score that removed the less helpful factor and added LDH performed slightly better. These findings suggest that updating current diagnostic tools could help improve the accuracy and speed of iTTP diagnosis.
