Help For Parents
Learn about your child’s condition and how it impacts different life stages. Get help with the problems you face in parenting a child with sickle cell disease or hemophilia. Our child life specialist knows what you’re going through, and can help you better understand how to keep your child safe and healthy.
Help For Children
Innovative Hematology’s child life specialist also helps kids manage pain and stress during treatments. We work with children to help them develop age-appropriate techniques for handling their condition. As they transition through childhood, we make sure each child grows in confidence and independence.
Resources For Children & Families
Check out these educational materials designed to help children and families navigate healthcare experiences with confidence:
Belly Breathing
Belly Breathing is a way to help you relax. Breathing this way uses your diaphragm (a large muscle that helps expand your lungs). Belly breathing can help manage pain, lower anxiety and stress, and slow down your breathing.
Guided Imagery
Guided Imagery is a way to use your five senses (sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing) to help you relax. With this skill, you can use your mind to help your body relax.
Stress Management
Stress can come from many things, and people feel stress in different ways. Stress is your body’s reaction to change. You can feel stress as tension or strain in your body. It could be a headache or a sore neck.
