"A lot of hematology is detective work which intrigues and allows me to bridge the gap between science and the patients lived experience."
A short interview with Sherwin DeSouza, MD - Adult Hematologist
What inspires you about your work?
I am inspired by the science and by patient stories. A lot of hematology is detective work which intrigues and allows me to bridge the gap between science and the patients lived experience.
How would you describe your approach to patient care?
In a word, collaborative, within the medical team and with the patient. I believe in educating and empowering patients to participate in their own health care.
What do you hope to accomplish for patients?
I hope for my patients to feel seen and heard, to understand their disease and the interventions, to incorporate their life goals into their health management and to provide state of the art hematologic care.
