Student Loans

FAFSA: Apply by June 30

You must complete the FAFSA application on time to be considered for federal student aid. States and colleges also use FAFSA information to award their own financial aid packages. The FAFSA is due June 30 every year. Learn more >

Understand student loans

  • To be eligible for federal student loans, you must complete the FAFSA.
  • Talk to your school’s financial aid office if you have questions about loans.
  • Only borrow the amount you need to cover your costs for the year. Do not borrow extra.
  • You do not have to make payments on your federal student loans while you are in school at least half time.

Loan responsibilities are real

Don’t be afraid to ask questions about your loan:

  • What type of loan is it?
  • Is my interest rate fix (will stay the same) or variable (could change over time)?
  • What kind of fees will I be charged?

Careers

Job applications

The job application is an employer’s first way to get to know you. Use these tips when you fill out applications:

  • Before you start writing, read the entire application first.
  • Be sure you have all the information you need.
  • Follow the directions carefully. Ask someone you trust to proofread your application.
  • Use positive words to describe yourself. Focus on your strengths that would be useful for this particular job.
  • Check your spelling.
  • Answer all the questions. Do not leave any questions blank.
  • Be honest with your answers.
  • Sign or e-sign the job application.
  • Only use a black or blue pen on paper applications.

Personality and career inventories

Understanding your personality can be helpful when you’re choosing a career. A personality and career inventory can help you think about different career paths and which ones might be best for you.
