I am pleased to announce that the Innovative Hematology Board of Directors has appointed Sanjay P. Ahuja, MD, MSc, MBA as the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer & Medical Director of Innovative Hematology, effective April 1, 2026.
Dr. Ahuja’s impressive career as a board-certified pediatric hematologist spans more than 20 years with significant experience in clinical practice, research, and leadership, including the role of Medical Director of University Hospitals Hemophilia Treatment Center in Cleveland, Ohio; Professor of Pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University; Distinguished Physician at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Director of the UH Rainbow Hemostasis and Thrombosis Center. In addition to his medical training, he earned master’s degrees in clinical research and business administration. Dr. Ahuja has published over 60 peer reviewed articles in scientific journals, holds patents for novel assays in coagulation, and as a nationally recognized expert, has served on numerous national review panels and advisory committees.
Since joining Innovative Hematology in September 2024, Dr. Ahuja has served as Chief Medical and Informatics Officer, working under the expert leadership of co-founder and CEO Dr. Amy Shapiro. Together, they have developed a strong succession strategy that will ensure Innovative Hematology’s continued success as a Center of Excellence.
As Dr. Ahuja assumes the CEO & Medical Director role on April 1, Dr. Shapiro will transition into the role of Innovative Hematology’s Chief Clinical Officer. Dr. Shapiro will continue her important work in research and will oversee clinical strategies to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.
Through these transitions, Drs. Ahuja and Shapiro’s commitment to Indiana’s blood disorder patients remains unwavering.
