Plain Language Summary:

Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are newer blood-thinning medications that are becoming more widely available for children with blood clots. This review examines their use in children with congenital or acquired heart disease, a group at particularly high risk for thromboembolic complications. Current evidence suggests these medications may be a safe and effective option, but more research is needed to better understand their long-term use and optimize care for pediatric heart disease patients.
