Plain Language Summary:

Type 1 plasminogen deficiency is an ultra-rare genetic disorder that can cause harmful fibrin-rich lesions on mucous membranes and lead to serious complications. In this long-term study, patients treated with intravenous plasminogen concentrate remained free of new or recurring lesions when they followed their prescribed treatment schedule. The therapy was generally well tolerated, with most side effects being mild, and continued to be effective for several years. These results support IV plasminogen concentrate as a safe and effective long-term treatment option for people living with this rare condition.
