Plain Language Summary:

Platelet disorders can increase the risk of serious bleeding, but current transfusion decisions are based mainly on platelet counts and do not fully measure how well platelets function. Researchers developed PlateChek, a new blood test that can assess both platelet number and platelet function.

In laboratory testing and patient samples, PlateChek successfully detected problems with blood clotting caused by low platelet counts and platelet function disorders. This new tool may help healthcare providers better identify bleeding risk and make more informed treatment decisions in the future.
